"Clap Your Hands Say Yeah" by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

2005. CYHSY & Wichita.

(I missed the boat on this one the first time around when all the buzz was buzzing. I think maybe I heard a track or two. So really, this is my first listen to the album as a whole.)

On first listen:
Sounds very Talking Heads, like David Byrne singing through his nose or a shakier Gordan Gano. Also I get hints of Magnetic Fields intrumental work, think Adventures of Pete & Pete scoring. This album had a lot of hype, and it's good, but I don't think it is ground shaking.

"Morrissey / the Smiths" split 7" by Xiu Xiu & Parenthetical Girls

 2009. Upset! the Rhythm

Xiu Xiu side
I woke up with the original Morrissey version of the song in my head this morning. It is a great song. I love it. I also love a good cover. This is a typical Xiu Xiu cover, more of an interpretive assault but every bit as good as the source material. Full of the bleeps and whirls and experimental weird beauty that I expect and adore from Xiu Xiu.

Parenthetical Girls side:
Where to begin...? How about "O-M-F-in'-G!" Or "...pardon me while I pick my jaw up from the floor." Seriously, this is just...wow. This is one of my favorite songs from the Smiths catalog, and I hadn't heard these Parenthetical Girls before so it was going to be a tall order to be filled by covering this number. I'm a sucker for a good cover, and...pardon me as I pause to move the needle back to the begining of this extremely repeatedly listenable record. Where was I ? Oh yeah...I'm a sucker for a good cover, but a great cover, well I'm yours forever. This song will appear on a mixtape in the future, to be sure.

"Office Of Future Plans" by Office Of Future Plans

        2011. Discord Records

      On First Listen:

At first it's like "...hmmm, melodic Discord." So I'm felling some DB's, maybe a touch of the Police minus the reggae. So it's like 90's college radio, slightly less crunchy Shellac and a slightly tougher and less Canadian The Pursuit Of Happiness. J. Robbins is written all over this record. Not sure what I think as far as how much I like it or not.

"Mega Rama" by Radical Dads

2011. Loud Baby Sounds.

On First Listen:

Preety cool. reminds me of Built To Spill and Helium but maybe not as overly epic in length of songs as they can be. Also very Pains Of Being Pure Of Heart. So I guess its kinda pop-shoegazery. I like.

So true...so true...

Greetings

This is a music blog for me to post about my new record purchases and some of my all time desert island faves. I'll also post some crazy awesome album art too, just for kicks.
